Yesterday, Head of Corporate & Commercial, Malcolm Murray joined a panel of esteemed entrepreneurs to discuss the ins and outs of preparing a company for investment, growth and sale. Hosted by the Headspace Group, Malcom led the first in a series of their #talkingheads seminars together with Brynne Herbert, CEO of Move Guides and well-known British entrepreneur, Will King, founder of King of Shaves.

Attended by owners and FDs of digital and creative businesses, the panel discussed the challenges faced by start-ups, how to remain protected throughout the life of the company and how to effectively plan for the future – whatever that future might be. Oli Shipton joins as Partner

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Oli Shipton as a Partner. Oli joins the firm today (1 April 2015) from Round World Entertainment (RWE), where he held the position of Group General Counsel. At RWE his role involved advising across the group’s varied business interests including 1966 Entertainment, 10Ten Talent and Iconic Images.

1966 Entertainment have managed the commercial rights of the England Men’s National Football Team’s since 2006, sports agency 10Ten Talent represent the likes of Pelé, Jack Wilshere, Glenn Hoddle and Christian Wade and Iconic Images Limited owns and represents the works of renowned photographers including Terry O’Neill, Douglas Kirkland, Baron Wolman and Gered Mankowitz

Oli will continue as principal counsel for the RWE businesses.

Prior to joining RWE in 2012, Oli worked at Lee & Thompson during which time Terry Byrne, (Chairman of RWE) was a client of the firm. Oli originally joined Lee & Thompson in 2009 having practiced as a corporate lawyer at US practice, McDermott Will & Emery.

Oli joins the firm as a member of the thriving Corporate & Commercial Group and will also become a Head of the Sport Group which will benefit enormously from Oli’s expertise. His experience lies in advising on commercial and regulatory matters such as sponsorship, endorsements, image rights, player contracts and transfers, representation and management, interpretation of governing body regulations, events, ownership and exploitation of intellectual property rights, and commercial contracts within the sporting and creative fields generally.

While much of his practice will be sport related, Oli also advises clients from the wider creative industries including fashion, photography and digital media with clients ranging from start-ups to global brands, entrepreneurs, sportsmen, agencies and rights holders.
